The Pentecostal Holiness Church Wing Kwong Junior School
Tai Po, Hong Kong
The project is to design and construct a new 36-classroom primary school and is located within the public rental housing development at Area 9, Tai Po. The subject school consists of 36 classrooms, 4 small group teaching rooms, 9 special rooms, a library, a guidance activity room, 2 interview rooms, a staff room, a staff common room, a conference room, an assembly hall, a multi-purpose area, a student activity centre and other ancillary facilities. The total construction floor area (CFA) for the school is about 13,233sqm.
The design objective for this School is to provide an airy and joyful environment for students to learn and develop, and at the same time offering some diverse and boundless spaces that encourage the students to interact, explore and purse their aspirations. The feature design of this School is the teaching and learning spaces are linked together by a central atrium and a “Rainbow Staircase”. This central atrium and staircase enhance visual and physical connection between 3 main building blocks i.e. Classroom block, Special Room Block and Hall Block with all levels and also serve as multi-functional spaces for walking, sitting, learning and interacting.
This School is the pioneer school project to adopt MiC construction in order to shorten construction time, improve working environment & site safety, sustainability and environmental friendliness and high construction quality. The repetitive design of standardized classrooms is well-suited for the adoption of MiC.
Pre-fabricated and modular type equipment using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) concept for toilet pipe duct risers, air conditioning terminals, pre-insulated air duct, distribution board, electrical riser, pump sets and HR cabinet has also been adopted in this project. Building Information Modelling (BIM) was also implemented from the onset up to handover of the project.
