Huawei Research & Industrial Park - Research Centre
Longgang, Shenzhen, China
Today, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. has become the leader of the IT industry in China. Back in the late 1990s, when they had selected Bantian in Shenzhen as the site for their national headquarters, WTPL had taken part in their phenomenal growth by masterplanning their 14.9 hectare Shenzhen base and designing five key projects to form the backbone of their global development.
One of the projects is the Research Centre. Designed to be a campus rather than a mere workplace, the centre aims at creating a setting in which the best IT brains of the country are nurtured. It comprises buildings of various configurations and heights in a setting of lush landscapes and themed courtyards. Facilities are custom-designed to suit the exact needs of the R&D personnel. The centre caters to a workforce of 7,000, with its members often found working, eating and resting on the campus around the clock.
Also incorporated in the project is an International Conference Centre and Exhibition Hall. These provide venues for a formal reception to international business partners and even national leaders and help project the corporate image of the company to the world.
The architecture of the buildings is one of contrasts and balance: rectilinear vs circular; textured vs smooth; opaque vs transparent and natural vs manmade.
