The French International School of Hong Kong - Chai Wan Primary School Campus
Chai Wan, Hong Kong
The site had been occupied by the Meng Tak Catholic School since the 1950s before it was re-granted to French International School by the Government in late 2010 for a new primary school with the addition of 18 classrooms and other ancillary facilities including a library, a computer room, a music room and activity rooms.
The project consists of 4 main component parts: the original masonry block (still in good structural conditions), the central courtyard, the North Annex, the South Annex and the New Annex. One design objective was to pay tribute to the historic setting of the site while being able to come up with a design for the new/ retrofitted annexes that could fit into the context with little physical and visual disruption as possible.
